Localize Your Labor Day Weekend Celebrations

Load the car. Fill the gas tank. Sit in traffic. Traveling over the Labor Day Weekend can be stressful! I like to save all of the energy, money, and time that would get burned by a long weekend of travel by enjoying what our town has to offer.

This Labor Day weekend looks like it will be a beautiful one in Milford. I’m excited for bike rides to the beach, kayaks through the harbor, and of course a stroll to the market! Our farmers market friends will be back in the sunshine this Saturday. They’ll have so many delicious ideas and offerings for your weekend celebrations.

The Meats: Katie from Ekonk Hill Farm will have local, pasture-raised verities of all of the grilling classics You’ll find delicious cuts of steak, turkey, and chicken. They’ll be plenty of hotdogs and sausages, too! A favorite of mine is Katie’s mango habanero sausage. Sweet with just a kick of spice, it’s a unique addition to the grill.

The Veggies: It’s fun to dream up all of the kabobs that can be created from the fresh pickings at the market. How about eggplant, squash, and red onion? Or peppers, whute onionns, mushrooms, and tomatoes? With three produce farms setting up this weekend, the possibilities are endless.

The Desserts: It’s been a sweet treat having Oronoque Farm Bakery at our market this summer. Folks have been raving about their delicious pies. This weekend they’ll have many summer favorites, including peach, cherry, and blueberry crumb. If you want to toss a preview of fall into your celebration, they’ll have apple pies and cider donuts, too!

Culinary creations await if you are fortunate enough to be staying in town this weekend. We expect 15 tents in total. Come say hi and get inspired. We’ll be celebrating so much good local food...Saturday, 9 to 1230, Wasson Field.
